Ukrainian Soldier Yuriy Receives a Modern Prosthesis and Returns to Work

With the onset of Russia’s full-scale invasion, Yuriy, like thousands of other Ukrainians, did not stand aside and joined the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. From the very first days, he was on the front lines, carrying out combat missions and defending the country alongside his comrades.

He served in the Donetsk region, particularly in Avdiivka and the village of Tonenke. It was there, during a heavy mortar attack by Russian forces, that he sustained a severe injury.

"We took up position, and soon a massive barrage of 120-mm mortar shells began. One exploded right next to me—that’s how it happened," Yuriy recalls.

His injury was critical—doctors had to perform multiple surgeries, eventually leading to the amputation of his limb.

A long period of treatment and a challenging adaptation process lay ahead. Yuriy received his first mechanical prosthesis in Lviv at the "Halychyna" rehabilitation center. His treatment lasted nearly ten months due to the need for several additional surgeries.

"Every new surgery delayed my rehabilitation by another month, which also postponed the prosthetic fitting," he explains.

We took on the financial responsibility for providing Yuriy with a modern prosthesis, significantly improving his mobility and allowing him to return to an active life.

"Covering such a cost on my own would have been impossible. But Techia made sure I received a high-quality prosthesis," he says with gratitude.

The prosthetic fitting took place in Kyiv at a specialized center on Khreshchatyk. The medical team quickly manufactured and adjusted the prosthesis, as well as provided training on how to use it.

"Everything was done promptly and professionally. The entire process took about a week," Yuriy adds.

"Thanks to this support, many of my fellow soldiers have regained their ability to walk, work, engage in sports, and even participate in the Invictus Games. Life goes on," he emphasizes.

We remain committed to our mission—supporting Ukrainian defenders in their recovery and reintegration following combat injuries.
