Vyshyvanka for Kyrylo Budanov was transferred to the Museum of the History of Ukraine
A replica of the vyshyvanka created for Hero of Ukraine Kyrylo Budanov as part of the nationwide “Vyshyvanka for a Hero” project has been transferred for permanent preservation to the collections of the National Museum of the History of Ukraine in the Second World War.
The project brought together hundreds of Ukrainian children who took part in creating the embroidered shirt by hand. Each child made just a few stitches, but together these small contributions became a powerful symbol of unity, gratitude, and support for Ukraine’s defenders.
The “Vyshyvanka for a Hero” project was initiated and created by the National Library of Ukraine for Children, together with its young readers and friends of the library. The original vyshyvanka was presented to Kyrylo Budanov, while its replica was donated to the museum’s collection to preserve the story of the project for future generations.
Techiia Foundation joined the initiative as a project partner. We believe it is important to support projects that not only make a difference today but also help preserve the memory of the people and events that are shaping Ukraine’s history.
The replica of Kyrylo Budanov’s vyshyvanka will now be kept in the museum’s collection alongside replicas of the embroidered shirts of Heroes of Ukraine Valerii Zaluzhnyi and Vasyl Maliuk.
These exhibits are part of Ukraine’s contemporary history. They tell the story not only of the country’s heroes, but also of thousands of people whose work, support, and unity help Ukraine stand strong.
“The ‘Vyshyvanka for a Hero’ project is about much more than embroidery. It is about remembrance, gratitude, and coming together for a common cause. We are proud to have been part of this initiative and to support projects that help preserve for future generations the history being made today,” said Erika Koliubayeva, a volunteer with the Ukrainian Film Union.
Every stitch in this vyshyvanka represents a small contribution from one person. Together, they have become a symbol of a much greater shared effort — supporting Ukraine and those who defend it.
