The soldier Yurii received a bionic prosthetic arm

Ukrainian serviceman Yurii, who served with the 46th Brigade, lost his arm in a Russian drone strike. Following a severe injury, amputation and prolonged treatment, he received a bionic prosthesis with the support of the Techiia Foundation.

Yurii was in Kherson when Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine. He joined the Armed Forces of Ukraine in 2025. While inside a dugout, he heard an enemy drone approaching but was unable to avoid the strike. In addition to losing his arm, he sustained fractures to his ribs and both shoulder blades, as well as injuries to his lungs and eardrums.

Prosthetic fitting was an important milestone in his recovery, and we funded the process. Yurii has been using his bionic prosthesis for two months. Despite the challenges of adapting to it, he encourages other defenders not to be afraid of prosthetics and to explore new opportunities to regain an active life.

“Get a prosthesis, give it a try, and don’t be afraid. At the very least, it boosts your self-esteem and gives you a sense of being whole,” Yurii says.

Supporting prosthetics for Ukrainian service members is one of the Techiia Foundation’s ongoing areas of work. Since 2023, we have been running the Unbreakable project, which supports defenders who have lost limbs as a result of combat. To date, 27 veterans have received assistance through the project.
