The soldier Oleksii received a bionic prosthetic arm

On February 24, 2022, Oleksii, like thousands of other Ukrainians, joined the Armed Forces to defend his country. He began his service as a machine gunner in an infantry unit, although he was officially listed as a driver.

In the first days of the war, he served in the Territorial Defense, protecting the entrance to Kyiv from the Zhytomyr highway. He sustained the arm injury, which led to the loss of his limb, during a mine explosion in the Kyiv region.

The road to recovery was challenging: months of treatment, rehabilitation, and adaptation. Oleksii himself shares that without the help of specialists and the support of the Techiia Foundation, the process would have been nearly impossible. Thanks to the efforts of the Foundation's team and the involvement of occupational therapists and physiotherapists, it was possible not only to install the prosthesis but also to help him adapt to using it.

"The prosthesis has truly changed my life. Of course, you need to learn how to use it, but now I can do so many things that were previously out of reach. I wouldn’t have managed without this help," Oleksii says.

He also advises other soldiers preparing for prosthetics to listen to their doctors, stay physically active, and mentally prepare for the changes ahead.

We believe that our support is crucial for wounded defenders of Ukraine. Through joint efforts, soldiers like Oleksii gain the chance for a new life, even after severe injuries.
