The soldier Oleksii received a bionic prosthetic arm
Another one of our wounded servicemen receives a prosthetic limb
Oleksii was at work as a security guard on February 24, 2022, when the full-scale invasion began. When the explosions started, he immediately went to the military enlistment office. However, due to the overwhelming queues, he could only join the armed forces seven months later.
After completing his training, Oleksii earned his officer’s rank and was assigned to the 93rd Brigade "Kholodnyi Yar." It was during a mission to evacuate wounded soldiers that he came under mortar fire.
“My arm was torn off instantly. I didn’t even have time to react,” the soldier recalls.
Following his medical treatment, Oleksii faced a harsh reality: the waiting time for a bionic prosthesis would be at least a year. But we managed to change that.
“They reached out to me themselves and simply took care of everything. One of the biggest worries is how to get a prosthesis — where to find the money, whether it will be a good quality one. But they handled everything, and they did it excellently,” Oleksii shared.
He is currently undergoing the adaptation process, which, as he admits, is not easy.
“The stump changes — sometimes it shrinks, sometimes it swells — and the sensors don’t always respond correctly. I try to do one thing, but it does something else. Still, I consider myself a complete person and even try to support others,” the serviceman says.
After the war, Oleksii plans to pursue a new career path.
“I enjoy driving. Maybe I’ll work in taxi services or cargo transportation,” he said.
Oleksii's story is one of many. We continue to help our defenders receive bionic prosthetics. Thanks to this support, some have retrained and found new professions, while others have returned to military service and continue defending Ukraine with their prostheses.
