The soldier Oleksander received a bionic prosthetic arm
The story of Oleksandr: A soldier equipped with a modern bionic arm prosthesis.
In 2023, during combat operations, a hand grenade (F-1) exploded near Oleksandr. As a result of the explosion, he lost his arm and suffered severe injuries to his internal organs and leg. Oleksandr spent four months in a wheelchair, and his treatment and rehabilitation have been ongoing for over a year now.
Within the framework of our "Unstoppable" project, Oleksandr received an Esper Hand bionic prosthesis — one of the most advanced in Ukraine.
"This prosthesis is very convenient. Compared to what is generally available today, let’s just say the state-provided prosthesis I simply put aside and don’t use at all. This one is much more advanced," says Oleksandr.
His adaptation to the bionic prosthesis progressed quickly. After a brief training course at the Esper Center, Oleksandr continued his training abroad during rehabilitation.
"I don’t use it all the time, as there isn’t always a need for it. While staying in the hospital, for example, there’s no real sense in wearing it," he explains.
Looking ahead, Oleksandr plans to return to his professional career — working as an economist and head of the information agency "Ukrainian Maritime Business News", unless he chooses to remain in military service.
He also encourages fellow soldiers not to fear prosthetic rehabilitation:
"I think that once a person has experienced amputation, a prosthesis no longer scares them. Everyone who suffers such injuries eagerly awaits prosthetic treatment."
Oleksandr’s story is not unique. That is why we continue to systematically support Ukrainian defenders by providing state-of-the-art bionic prostheses, covering the costs of rehabilitation, and assisting with adaptation after traumatic injuries. This ongoing work saves lives, restores functionality, and gives our soldiers hope for the future.
