Surgical Instruments to a Frontline Medical Battalion
Techiiа Foundation has delivered a set of specialized surgical instruments to the 1st Separate Medical Battalion, which operates in the Donetsk direction. The total value of the assistance is nearly UAH 1 million.
Frontline medical units are among the first points of care for service members who sustain severe combat injuries. Wounded defenders often arrive in critical condition, and the speed and quality of medical care can be crucial to stabilizing them and preparing them for further evacuation.
That is why medical teams need not simply a sufficient supply of equipment, but the specific instruments that match the nature of combat injuries and allow surgeons to perform the necessary procedures directly at the frontline.
The Foundation delivered instruments used in laparoscopic surgery. They are particularly important when treating injuries to the abdominal and thoracic cavities. Laparoscopic techniques allow surgeons to perform complex procedures through small access points, including controlling internal bleeding without the need for a large abdominal incision.
Another important aspect of the assistance includes monopolar surgical instruments. These instruments are routinely used in trauma and general surgery. Electrosurgical instruments allow surgeons to cut biological tissue while simultaneously coagulating blood vessels and controlling bleeding.
Monopolar instruments are used together with passive electrodes and other essential accessories. Together, these components form a complete set that surgeons can use during operations.
For us, decisions about which equipment is needed must be made by the medical professionals who work with wounded service members every day.
“We are not the ones performing the operations — the doctors are. That is why they are the ones who determine which instruments they need and which ones are most convenient for them to use. Our task is to meet those needs as quickly and as fully as possible. For us, it is important to provide not simply what we happen to find or what our partners are able to offer, but exactly what the doctor has requested — and in the quantity they need.”
The medical battalion operates three operating rooms, where medical teams provide surgical care to service members suffering from combat-related injuries. All the instruments and accessories requested by the medical team have been purchased and delivered by the Techiiа Foundation in full.
For a frontline surgeon, a high-quality surgical instrument is more than just a piece of equipment. It is a tool that makes it possible to act quickly and precisely when every minute can make a difference.
We help medical teams receive exactly what they need to save the lives of Ukraine’s defenders.
